After an IPAM upgrade, the Web Console still lists the previous version number

Updated January 18, 2018

Overview

After an IPAM upgrade, the Windows Add/Removed Programs Control Panel shows the upgraded version number. However, the footer of the Orion Web Console shows the previous version number.

Environment

  • IPAM 4.6 in this instance, the same issue can apply to other modules/versions.

Cause

Possible causes include:

  • Anti-virus software interfering with the upgrade.
  • Permission issues while performing the upgrade.

Resolution

When you perform an installation or upgrade:

  • Ensure that anti-virus software is disabled during the installation or upgrade.
  • Ensure that a local administrator account is used for installations or upgrades.
  • Ensure that UAC is disabled for the account used for the installation or upgrade.

After the upgrade, check the C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Modules\ folder for any old files. For example, you might find a file called IPAM - Copy.xml. This was left from an old fix related to IPAM 4.5.If you find this file:

  1. Stop all services using the Orion Service Manager.
  2. Remove the IPAM - Copy.xml file. You can place it in a backup location if you wish.
  3. Start all services using the Orion Service Manager.
