Add a DHCP server from another domain

Updated November 29th, 2018

Overview

This article describes how to add a DHCP server to IPAM when it is in another domain.

For example,

The IPAM server is in domain 1 and the DHCP server is in domain2.

An account for DHCP polling was created on domain 2.

Domain2\dhcpuser

When you try to add the DHCP server to IPAM, you may see an "Invalid Username or Password" message/error.

Environment

All IPAM versions

Cause

This procedure needs to be followed as there is no trust between the domain where the DHCP server resides and the domain where the IPAM server resides.

Resolution

  1. Create a local account on IPAM server.
    For example, dhcpuser.

    • Note: This account must have the same username and password as the account on the DHCP server.

  2. Create the Windows credential in IPAM
    For example,
Username = dhcpuser (do not include the domain)
    Password = Password for dhcpuser
  3. Use the above credentials for polling the DHCP server.
  4. If the credential test still fails with "Access is Denied" error, Reboot the DHCP server and re-add to IPAM.
