IP Address Manager 4.7 Release Notes

Last updated: May 31, 2018

These release notes describe the new features, improvements, and fixed issues in IPAM 4.7. They also provide information about upgrades and describe workarounds for known issues.

See IPAM 4.7 system requirements for system, software, database, and port requirement information.

SolarWinds Orion Installer for installing Orion Platform 2018.2 already includes the Orion Platform 2018.2 Hotfix 1.

New features and improvements

This section describes the features and improvements in this release. See the release notes for older versions of IPAM to learn about previous releases.

IPAM 4.7 is an Orion Platform product and uses Orion Platform 2018.2.

Amazon Route 53 and Azure DNS monitoring

  • Users can monitor DNS zones and records from both Amazon Route 53 and Azure DNS cloud providers
  • DNS zones from multiple cloud accounts are displayed in a centralized view

IP Request form

  • Built-in, web-based request form for restricted users to request a static IP. Requests then go through a manual approval process.
  • Accounts with the necessary permissions can request IPs from a specific subnet and automatically make reservations.

Overlapping IP support

  • Users can monitor non-routed subnets at multiple locations, allowing for overlapping IP spaces.

New customer installation

For information about installing IPAM 4.7, see the SolarWinds Orion Installer documentation.

Before you upgrade!

Use the following resources for planning and upgrading:

  • IPAM 4.7 uses the Orion Platform 2018.2.

  • From IPAM 4,6, IPAM no longer supports Windows OS 2008 and 2008 R2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. For information about supported versions of SolarWinds products, see this article.

  • To use IPAM 4.7 and UDT together, you must upgrade to UDT 3.3.1.
  • When upgrading, if you added a site binding to a host name before you upgrade, you must bind the Orion Web Console to a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). See this article.

  • When upgrading with custom menus, you cannot see the Performance Dashboard link in the menu. For details, see this article.

  • When upgrading an Additional Poller, you may receive this error :"The license we have for Orion Scalability Engine is outdated". See this article for details to resolve.

  • If you have written your own code, such as changing SolarWinds .css files or adding .js files, it may be overwritten with the upgrade. You can learn more about custom code in this article.
  • If you have edited resource properties, the All Groups resource may be empty after upgrading.
  • When upgrading, using the group by feature for custom properties may return no results, and the data loading may hang or not complete. All regular functionality is unaffected by the issue.
  • Always upgrade NPM first if you have it installed. NPM includes platform features to support all Orion products.
  • If you have SAM without NPMupgrade SAM first. SAM includes platform features to support all Orion products.

How to upgrade

If you are upgrading from a previous version, use the following resources to plan and implement your upgrade:

  • Use the Product Upgrade Advisor to determine your upgrade path. Based on your current environment and versions, the Product Upgrade Advisor provides an ordered list of how to proceed with the upgrade.
  • If you are upgrading:
  • When you are ready, download the upgrade package from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
