Congratulations on your purchase of SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM). IPAM leverages an intuitive point-and-click interface to allow you to easily investigate IP address space issues and manage your DHCP and DNS servers. By periodically scanning the network for IP address changes, Orion IPAM maintains a dynamic list of IP addresses and allows engineers to plan for network growth, ensure IP space usage meets corporate standards, and reduce IP conflicts.

These release notes provide additional guidance for IPAM v 4.0.

New Features and Improvements

IPAM 4.0 includes the following new features and improvements:

  • Support for BIND DNS management and monitoring
Create, edit, delete DNS zones and DNS records for BIND DNS v8.x and v9.x (A, AAAA, MX, PTR, CNAME), and monitor service and zone statuses
  • Active IP Address conflict detection in both static and DHCP environments
Predefined alerts that show information about IP Addresses conflicts and related MAC addresses
  • Further Integration of IPAM with User Device Tracker (UDT) via subviews
See Port and User information on the same page as IP Address Host or DNS assignment history and you can shutdown ports remotely in case of IP address conflicts (UDT functionality)
  • UI improvements
New icons for IP Addresses,DNS Zones, and DHCP Scopes

Note: If you install IPAM and NPM on the same server, NPM will need to be on version 10.5 or higher and any additional pollers and websites must also be upgraded accordingly.

End-of-Life announcement (EOL) - Customers on Solarwinds IPAM v 2.0 or older should begin transitioning to SolarWinds IPAM 4.0

Warnings:

As with all modifications to your production environment, it is suggested that you complete the following tasks before implementing any changes:

  • SolarWinds does not recommend managing more than 3 million addresses per installation.
  • Ensure you first create a backup of your database.
  • Test the change in a lab environment that mimics your production environment. If you need a temporary license to install an instance of the software in a lab, please download an evaluation copy of the latest software from our website. Evaluation copies come with a fully functional 30-day license.
