Efficiently import custom IPs into IPAM

This article describes how to efficiently import IPs into IPAM.

For example, when importing custom IPs with mixed CIDR subnet imports in a supernet.


All IPAM versions


  1. Take an example spreadsheet and export it from IPAM.


  1. Edit the example spreadsheet with custom subnet information to create a comprehensive spreadsheet.
    Note: As this is an example spreadsheet, you can leave the non-customized data fields empty such as Neighbor Scan Interval as this type of data will all be set to default when left empty. Make sure that the subnet name, IP, Mask and CIDR information are added.
  2. Import the example spreadsheet.
    This will create all the subnets with no IP information.
  3. Extract the AddIPFinal_28th file on the Main Orion server directly (not on the Web Console) to any directory (sent by a SolarWinds Support Technician)
  4. Run the Solarwinds.Tools.IPAM.AddIps.exe executable file
  5. Login using your Orion Web Console account and password.
  6. Click Refresh.


  1. Make sure that the subnets that house the blank IPs are selected.


  1. Click Add IPs to populate all IPs in the imported subnets in Orion.
  2. Return to the supernet top level and export the entire supernet.


  1. Select and keep the custom columns that you would want to export.
    Note: The IP address, CIDR and Mask columns should always be selected and kept.
  2. Create a new spreadsheet that matches the exported columns.
  3. Copy and paste all broken subnets IPs from the supernet export to the new spreadsheet and combine all the IPs in new spreadsheet listing in order.
  4. Import the data into IPAM as an IP import and overwrite the existing IP data.
  5. Confirm and verify the IP information.
