The FSM DB backup/restore procedure should always start from FSM server machine. The Client DB backup/restore can be applied to the remote FSM client machines after the server DB backup has been completed.

Backup Database

1. Close all FSM clients, including any remote clients.

2. Log on to the FSM server as an administrator.

3. Stop all FSM services:

Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Firewall Security Manager > Stop Server

4. Back up fsm_server.fdb file in the “data” folder for FSM. By default, the "data" folder is installed at

        C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMServer\data\

The simplest way to perform backup is to rename the fsm_server.fdb file by appending the FSM version number, as in fsm_server_<ver_no.>.fdb</ver_no.> . FSM version number can be found from “About FSM” page in FSM Client.  The backed-up DB file need be copied to another location outside of FSM installation folder.

5. Back up fsm_client.fdb file in the “database” folder under FSM workspace. By default, FSM workspace is installed in your Windows user account folder:

        - Win7/Vista/2008 - C:\Users\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM Server\workspace\database\</user_account>

        - XP/2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM Server\workspace\database\</user_account>

The renaming/backup approach in Step 4 can be applied here also.

6. If you need back up the remote FSM Client DB, repeat Step 5 on the remote FSM client machines.

By default, the remote client workspace is installed in your Windows user account folder:

        - Win7/Vista/2008 - C:\Users\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM\workspace\database\</user_account>

        - XP/2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM\workspace\database\</user_account>

7.  Start all FSM services on FSM server:

Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Change Advisor > Start Server

Restore Database

1. Find the FSM version number for the Share DB and Client DB file(s) that are about to be restored. Make sure the version numbers are the same as your current FSM server/client, and Shared DB and Client DB files were created in the same backup period.

2. Close all FSM clients, including any remote clients.

3. Log on to the FSM server as an administrator.

4. Stop all FSM services:

Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Firewall Security Manager > Stop Server

5. Backup fsm_server.fdb file in the “data” folder for FSM.

6. Overwrite fsm_server.fdb file with the Shared DB file you prepared at Step1. If you used renaming in the backup procedure, you need to remove the version number.

By default, the "data" folder is installed at C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMServer\data\

7. Backup fsm_client.fdb file in the “database” folder under FSM workspace.

8. Overwrite fsm_client.fdb file with the Client DB file you prepared at Step1. If you used renaming in the backup procedure, you need to remove the version number.

By default, FSM workspace is installed in your Windows user account folder:

        - Win7/Vista/2008 - C:\Users\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM Server\workspace\database\</user_account>

        - XP/2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM Server\workspace\database\</user_account>

9. If you need restore the remote FSM client DB, repeat Step 7-8 on the remote FSM client machines.

By default, the remote client workspace is installed in your Windows user account folder:

        - Win7/Vista/2008 - C:\Users\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM\workspace\database\</user_account>

        - XP/2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user_account>\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSM\workspace\database\</user_account>

10. Start all FSM services on FSM server:

Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Change Advisor > Start Server
