Issue: Null Pointer Exception (NPE); SQL Exception

Description:  When the system property user.home does not correspond to USERPROFILE, Firewall Security Manager (FSM) report generation sometimes throws a null pointer exception. When FSM throws the NPE, and the user.home property points to a network drive, FSM sometimes throws a SQL exception.

Environment: NA

Cause:  Due to a known Java bug, Roaming Profile with user folder redirection sometimes causes a SQL exception in the task view, and an NPE in report generation.

Workaround:

  1. Exit Firewall Security Manager.

  2. Create a new folder on the local hard drive.
    For example, C:\SolarWinds_FSM.

  3. Open Wordpad as Administrator.

  4. Open C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMServer\SolarWinds FSM.ini.

  5. In SolarWinds FSM.ini, add the following line at the bottom of the file:
    -Duser.home=C:\SolarWinds_FSM

  6. Save SolarWinds FSM.ini  with the changes.

  7. Open Firewall Security Manager


Note
The server installation default folder is C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMServer . 


If Firewall Security Manager is installed on a remote computer connected to Firewall Security Manager server, the default Firewall Security Manager client installation is in directory C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMClient . You must also modify SolarWinds FSM.ini in C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\SolarWinds FSMClient.
