Overview

The following error is received on additional polling engines after Orion Failover Engine is installed:

Unable to protect service SOLARWINDSALERTINGSERVICEV2 because Service SOLARWINDSALERTINGSERVICEV2 was not found

Environment

All versions of Orion Failover Engine

Cause

The SOLARWINDSALERTINGSERVICEV2 is not required on Additional Polling Engines, but there is a registry key that triggers the error.

Resolution

Note: The following steps must be taken on the Primary Active server of any additional polling engine protected by Orion Failover Engine.

  1. Backup the registry on the additional polling engine.  See: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=ws.10).aspx.
  2. Launch regedit.exe and delete the registry record “SolarwindsAlertingServiceV2” from “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolarWinds.Net\ConfigurationWizard\ServicesName
  3. Shutdown SolarWinds Orion Failover Engine > Do not stop protected applications.
  4. Start Failover Engine.

Orion Failover Engine will synchronize the changes to the Secondary Passive member of the failover pair.  These changes prevents the error message from being generated.
