Enable HAL Detection on Windows Server 2008

Error: Clone origin (Primary) does not have HAL detection on boot set

The setup cannot continue.

This article contains more information about an error message that can be encountered during SolarWinds Failover Engine Setup if HAL Detection is not enabled.

  • Windows Server 2008



This issue might be encountered on Windows 2008 environments where HAL detection is not enabled in the boot options. SolarWinds Failover Engine Setup checks for this boot option as part of the HAL type check.



To fix this problem and be able to continue the SolarWinds Failover Engine installation, HAL Detection must be turned on:

  1. Navigate to Start > Run.
  2. Type msconfig.exe and click OK.
  3. Navigate to Boot > Advanced Options.
  4. Check Detect HAL.
  5. Save changes and reboot the machine.
