Could not retrieve counters for category Compression Manager & NFHB Comms Manager while trying to update counter value

Overview

This article describes the issue with the errors your receive for FoE and other SolarWind products installed on a server in Microsoft counters. The following errors are seen in the logs:

  • Could not retrieve counters for category Compression Manager while trying to update counter value.

Please check the Windows performance counter settings and reload using "lodctr /R".

  • Could not retrieve counters for category NFHB Comms Manager while trying to update counter value.

Please check the Windows performance counter settings and reload using "lodctr /R".

Environment

  • FOE version 6.7 
  • NPM version 11.5.2

Cause 

This issue occurs if certain extensible counters corrupt the registry, or if Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)-based programs modify the registry.
