Unexpected error: An error occurred while generating map

Overview

EOC network maps do not work in the network map resource. When editing the resource no maps are available and the following error is displayed:

Unexpected error: An error occurred while generating map [NAME]

Environment

  • All versions of EOC

 

Resolution

  1. Go to each of the following folders and apply the user types and permissions in Step 2:
    • \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files
    • \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files (if the folder exists)
    • \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files
    • \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files (if the folder exists)
    • \Windows\TEMP\Solarwinds
    • \Program Data\Solarwinds
    • \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\
  2. Right-click and select Properties for each folder in Step 1. Add the following users and grant full control:
    • (local server) IUSR
    • (local server) Network Service
    • (local server) Authenticated Users
  3. Go to one of the Temp folder volumes:
    1. Volume: \WINDOWS\Temp\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Maps\Orion\localhost\
    2. Volume: \WINDOWS\Temp\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Orion\Solarwinds\NetworkAtlass\MapsWeb\Orion\localhost\ 
  4. Clear out all files inside the localhost folder to allow the website to re-write them.
  5. Restart all SolarWinds EOC services in services.msc
  6. Open a CMD prompt as administrator and type IISRESET
