Enterprise Operations Console 2.1 Release Notes

Last updated: August 14, 2018

These release notes describe the new features, improvements, and fixed issues in Enterprise Operations Console 2.1. They also provide information about upgrades and describe workarounds for known issues.

New features and improvements

Improved and Updated UI

The EOC 2.1 Enterprise Environment Summary allows for additional flexibility when customizing views, and unique controls for on-demand filtering. Examples include Orion Site Status, Site Filter, Enterprise Nodes List, and All Alerts.

  • Orion Site Status Widget
The Orion Status widget provides a break down of the status between EOC and your remote sites.
  • Site Filter Widget
The Site Filter widget allows you to filter EOC resources on the summary page.
  • Enterprise Nodes List
The Enterprise Nodes List is a simple, effective widget that allows EOC to maintain a tiered list for accessing devices from your remote instances.
  • All Alerts Widget
The All Alerts widget has been improved for EOC 2.1 and is now the de facto alerts resource on the EOC web console. This widget provides a self-contained method for quick filtering, sorting, and searching alerts across your distributed deployment.

Enterprise Summary Tile Enhancements

Enterprise Summary tiles are now individual widgets and include an Advanced Entity Filter. This allows you to take advantage of unique and granular filtering controls, without the need to understand SWQL.

  • Advanced Entity Filter
Customization of a tile is much easier with the addition of conditional filters to entity types, allowing you to specify which entities you want to view in a tile. Advanced knowledge of SolarWinds Query Language (SWQL) is not necessary.
  • Any customized tiles created in EOC 2.0 are automatically migrated into the default summary view in EOC 2.1.

Note: The organization of custom tiles in EOC 2.0 is not preserved when upgrading to 2.1. EOC 2.1 user views will function in the same manner that the standard Orion Instance behaves and will no longer force unique views to individual members within AD groups.

Enterprise Top 10 and Enterprise Groups Views

Two new views have been added to EOC 2.1: Enterprise Top 10 and Enterprise Groups. The Enterprise Top 10 page is provided out-of-the-box to provide you with quick insight into critical statuses, problem areas, and hotspots. The Enterprise Groups view allows you to pinpoint group statuses, alerts, and events from all configured groups across deployments.

New PerfStack Widgets in EOC

With the addition of the PerfStack dashboard to EOC 2.1, you now have the ability to troubleshoot and correlate metrics across your entire distributed environment from a single console. PerfStack widgets allow for saved projects to be displayed alongside other resources on any EOC dashboard.

New customer installation

For information about installing EOC 2.1 see the SolarWinds Orion Installer for EOC.

Before you upgrade!

As of the release of EOC 2.0, the Enterprise Operations Console has been rebuilt to run on the Orion Platform. If you are running EOC 2.0, you can upgrade to EOC 2.1 using the same server.

Note: The organization of custom tiles in EOC 2.0 is not preserved when upgrading to 2.1.

Due to this rebuild, users of versions prior to EOC 2.0 must install EOC to 2.1 on a separate server. To begin using the new features, simply install EOC 2.1 on a different server from your current EOC edition.

Upgrade Remote Sites to Orion Pacman Hot Fix 2

If you meet the following criteria:

  • You are currently running Orion Pacman 2018.2
  • You have remote sites that are in a different time zone than your EOC site

SolarWinds recommends that you upgrade your remote instances to Orion Pacman Hot Fix 2 after installing EOC 2.1. This will provide the optimal conditions in EOC for monitoring SolarWinds Sites located in different time zones. Use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to upgrade your platform to Orion Pacman Hot Fix 2.

How to upgrade

If you are upgrading from EOC 2.0 or later, use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to upgrade one or more Orion Platform products simultaneously.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version prior to 2.0, use the following resources to plan and implement an upgrade to EOC 2.0. Then use the SolarWinds Orion Installer to complete the upgrade.

Known issues

A SolarWinds Site is reconfigured to point to a new database

Issue: If you add a SolarWinds Site to EOC and then the site is reconfigured to point to a new database, EOC dashboards and reports do not work correctly and an error is displayed.

  1. Click Settings > All Settings.
  2. Under Getting Started with Orion, click Manage SolarWinds Sites.
  3. Select the site, and click Edit Site.
  4. Click through the Wizard and click Update Site.

A site or group used to filter a custom tile is removed

Issue: If you create a custom tile and then an administrator removes a site or group used to filter the data that the tile displays, the tile displays invalid data.

  1. Click the menu icon in the upper-right corner of the Environment Summary resource.
  2. Click Configure.
  3. Click Edit on the resource.
  4. If necessary, adjust the title to reflect the change to the contents or adjust the remaining filter criteria. (If the current settings are valid, you do not have to change anything.)
  5. Click Save, and then click Save again.

Missing application statuses on a custom tile

Issue: If a custom tile is filtered by a group that contains applications and Application is selected as the Entity Filter, the tile does not display application status information.

Resolution: Do not filter by a group containing applications and choose Applications as the Entity Filter.

A custom tile is filtered by a group that contains another group

Issue: A custom tile displays invalid data if it is filtered by a group that contains another group.

Resolution: Do not filter by a group that contains another group.

Using the browser's Back button to return to the Enterprise Environment Summary

Issue: If you click a link in a status resource tile on the Enterprise Environment Summary view, the Asset Explorer opens. If you then click the browser's Back button, you return to the Enterprise Environment Summary view. However, the titles of the Environment Summary and Active Alerts resources are not displayed.

Work-around: Use the menu to navigate back to the Enterprise Environment Summary view.

Resolution: If this occurs, refresh the browser page to restore the titles.
