Important: These system requirements define the minimum requirements for all products on Orion Platform 2016.1. Products may have different requirements, such as OS or memory, and may differ per license level.

For additional information on requirements and configurations, see the Orion Common Components Guide. You should also review your product administration guides and release notes for the exact product requirements beyond these minimums.

Hardware requirements

The following table lists minimum hardware requirements and recommendations for your Orion system.

 

Hardware requirements are listed by SolarWinds NPM license level.

Software requirements

The following table lists minimum software requirements and recommendations for a SolarWinds EOC installation.

These minimum requirements are for the Orion Platform. Products that run on the Orion Platform may have different requirements, such as different OS or memory requirements. Consult your product-specific documentation for those exact requirements.

  • Beginning with Orion Platform 2016.1, you can only install on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, 2012, and 2012 R2.
  • SolarWinds does not support installing SolarWinds products on domain controllers.
  • SolarWinds neither recommends nor supports the installation of any Orion product on the same server or using the same database server as a Research in Motion (RIM) Blackberry server.

 

Operating System 32-bit or 64-bit Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 (including R2), or Windows Server 2012 (including R2).
Web Server Microsoft IIS 6.0 or later. DNS specifications require that host names be composed of alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), the minus sign (-), and periods (.). Underscore characters (_) are not allowed. For more information, see RFC 952.
.NET Framework Version 4.0 or later
Network Speed 100 Mbit/s between SolarWinds EOC and SQL Server

Orion SQL database requirements

Your product and your SolarWinds Orion database should use separate servers.

Multiple Orion server installations using the same database are not supported.

The following table lists software and hardware requirements for your SolarWinds Orion database server using SolarWinds EOC license levels as a reference.

 

SQL Server

SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console supports the following versions, with latest service packs:

  • SQL Server 2005 Express, Standard, or Enterprise
  • SQL Server 2008 Express, Standard, or Enterprise
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, Standard or Enterprise
  • SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express, Standard or Enterprise

Notes:

  • Either mixed-mode or SQL authentication must be supported
  • .NET is not required if your database is on a separate server.
  • Use the following database select statement to check your SQL Server version, select pack or release level, and edition:

Select SERVERPROPERTY (‘productversion’), SERVERPROPETY (‘productlevel’), SERVERPROPERTY (‘edition’)
