Unresponsive tools in the Toolset tab in the Orion web interface

Overview

The following error occurs in the Toolset.BusinessLayer.log  file when running any tool from the Toolset tab of the Orion web interface:

ERROR SolarWinds.Toolset.BusinessLayer.ResultNotification.ResultNotificationProxy - Error occured during remote service call
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: There was no endpoint listening at http://{Address}/Orion/Toolset/Services/ResultNotificationService.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

Environment

  • ETS 11 and later
  • Windows 2008 and later

Cause 

The error is caused when the address used by the Toolset module to access the Orion BusinessLayer is incorrect.

Resolution

  1. Open to the following file in Notepad:
    C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\Toolset\web.config
  2. Set the value for CustomBaseServiceUrlto the URL of the Orion web interface. For example: 
    <add key="CustomBaseServiceUrl" value="http://myorion.domain.com" />
  3. Save the file.
  4. Restart the SolarWinds Orion Module Engine service.
