WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Switch Port Mapper timeout

Overview

The following errors appear when scanning stacked switches with Switch Port Mapper:

  • Error: Unable to get requested table due to SNMP timeout
  • Error: Credential test failed. Result: CredentialTestFailed

Environment

  • All Engineer's Toolset versions
  • All Windows versions
  • Stacked switches with a large number of port.

Resolution

Disable GetBulk to let Switch Port Mapper request one value at a time.

1. Go to Switch Port Mapper and click  Settings.

2. Click the Port Map Settings tab.

3. Uncheck the Use GetBulk option in the Switch Settings and Layer 3 Device Settings sections, and then click OK.

This should slow down the queries and allow the device to keep up.

Cause

When using GetBulks, Switch Port Mapper requests 20 values at a time.  With stacked switches, these requests can pile up and eventually the time for the switch to respond is greater than the time Switch Port Mapper is willing to wait.
