Engineer's Toolset v11.0 licensing (FAQ)

Updated November 29th, 2016

This article presents frequently asked questions about licensing changes in Engineer's Toolset 11.0.

What’s new in Engineer’s Toolset v11.0?

Based on customer requests, we added an Orion-based Web interface for a selection of our most popular tools. This web interface is a feature of Engineer's Toolset, and is called Engineer's Toolset on the Web. It can be installed as a standalone product, or installed on an Orion platform and integrated with any Orion-based product, such as NPM, SAM, NCM, NTA.

Why does my Engineer's Toolset customer portal look different?

Engineer's Toolset is licensed for individual users, the new Engineer's Toolset on the Web feature also requires a license addition. You will now see an additional Web License Key for every Desktop Engineer's Toolset license you own.

How does this change affect me?

You now have the option to install the Engineer's Toolset on the Web that requires a Web License Key.  Engineer's Toolset on the Web allows you to access our five most popular tools in a browser from within the Orion Web Console. Engineer's Toolset on the Web does not replace your Desktop interface; it is an option to access your tools remotely on the web.

Has pricing changed with this new Web License Key?

How does this affect my license renewals?

This change does not affect your license renewals. Renew your maintenance in the same way as before. On renewal, Solarwinds provides two new license keys instead of only one key. You can also simplify license management by merging your license keys. For more information, see the knowledge base article Merging Engineer's Toolset License Keys (FAQ).

Is there a video that shows how to merge keys?

Yes, click here.

What if I don’t want to install the Engineer's Toolset on the Web?

Engineer's Toolset on the Web is an optional feature. You are not required to use the Web License Key.

What if I want v11.0 but not Engineer's Toolset on the Web?

You can upgrade to v11.0, however, the only new feature in v11.0 is the Engineer's Toolset on the Web. There are no changes to the Desktop Engineer's Toolset. To ensure that you receive standard bug fixes included in the release, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to v11.0, even if you choose not to use the Engineer's Toolset on the Web.

What if I don’t want to or cannot upgrade to v11.0?

Some previous versions of Engineer's Toolset will continue to be supported. Please refer to the Customer Notification for details on End of Support Policy.
