Engineer's Toolset: Failover Engine Error - Syslog and Trap Services

Issue

Failover Engine installation fails with an error message similar to the following :
 

Service SOLARWINDSTRAPSERVICE has failed three times. Application management framework will not attempt to recover it again for 23.98 hours."

or

Service SOLARWINDSSYSLOGSERVICE has failed three times. Application management framework will not attempt to recover it again for 23.98 hours.

Cause

Solarwinds System Trap Service and Solarwinds Syslog Service are set to be started automatically.

Resolution

Modify the Start Type of Solarwinds System Trap Service and Solarwinds Syslog Service to Disabled.
 

  1. After Failover Engine is activated, click Start, and select Control Panels > Administrative Tools > Services.
    On some systems, the path is Control Panels > Services.
    The system Services window opens.
  2. Locate Solarwinds Syslog Service, right-click, and select Properties.
    The SolarWinds Syslog Service Properties window opens.
  3. In the Startup type list, select Disabled.
  4. Click Apply, then click Start.
    The SolarWinds Syslog Serice starts.
  5. Repeat for SolarWinds Trap Service.
  6. Restart SolarWinds Failover Manager.
