SQL Server checksum option

Storage subsystems are not perfect. For this reason Microsoft and SQL Server MVPs recommend that the checksum option be enabled. If an inconsistency occurs on the I/O subsystem, SQL Server immediately notices when a page is read rather than allow the application to be exposed to the inconsistency.

Enable the checksum option

By default, the checksum option is enabled. If the option is disabled in a database, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the SQL Server Management Studio.
  2. Right-click on a Database, and click Properties.
  3. Select the Options page.
  4. Locate the Page Verify option in the Recovery section.
  5. Change the Page Verify value to CHECKSUM, and click OK.
