Negative Hash values in DPA

Table of contents

Updated 09/26/2017

Overview

This article explains why you may get negative hash values for certain queries detected by DPA.

Environment

  • DPA, all versions

Detail

  • DPA generated negative hash values because SQL Server gave DPA an empty SQL Handle, i.e. SQL Server did not tell DPA what the SQL was so there is no way to show it.
  • DPA does try to show other info like the user, program and some other values, but drilling into the database and other dimensions may help you understand what it is.
  • Also, use the Sessions tab to see if it's always the same session. If so, try looking at the Current page in DPA to see other data for that SPID.
