Overview

The repository creation step for DPA fails when trying to create a SQL server repository on Step two of the wizard with a known good windows authentication account. The wizard displays the following error:

An unknown error has occurred. The provided message is "Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.swl.SQLExecution: i/O Error: DB Server closed connection."

Environment

All versions of DPA

Cause

This Windows authentication account is defaulting to a Kerberos authentication and is not working over the Java JDCB driver. If the connection works and authenticates in SQL Server Management Studio this may be because it switches to NTLMv2 authentication on fail. DPA also does this for the connections to the monitored instances, but is not adding the option to be default for the repository connection.

Resolution

  1. Click the link Advanced Connection Properties (Support only) on this same screen of the repository connection wizard.
  2. Add the following: useNTLMv2=True.

  3. Try the connection again.
  4. If this alone doesn't work, also try ssl=request if the SQL Server monitored instance is known to also require encryption.
