Setting UnionDegreeOfParallelism to 1 breaks DPAIM resources

Updated July 19, 2017

If the Orion Platform setting UnionDegreeOfParallelism is set to 1, some DPAIM resources do not display data. For example, on the Databases Summary page, the All Database Instances resource displays an error message.

  • DPAIM 11.0 and earlier

Sometimes customers are instructed to set UnionDegreeOfParallelism  to 1 to resolve an issue with dependencies. However, a value of 1 affects DPAIM resources.

Determine the appropriate value for UnionDegreeOfParallelism

To have both dependencies and DPAIM resources work correctly, do one of the following:

  • If you have only one DPA server integrated with the Orion Platform, set UnionDegreeOfParallelism  to 0
  • If you have integrated more than one DPA servers:
    1. Upgrade the Orion Platform to 2017.1 or later. (To upgrade the platform, upgrade one or more Orion products to the latest version.)
    2. Set UnionDegreeOfParallelism  to 2 or higher. (The default value is 3.)

Set the value

To set the UnionDegreeOfParallelism  value:

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console as an administrator.
  2. Enter the following URL in the address field of the web browser:

  3. Scroll down to the Swis.QueryEngine section and update the value for UnionDegreeOfParallelism

  4. Click Save.
