Overview

You get a "Repointing between Amazon RDS and non-RDS instances is not permitted" error when editing the connection details of a registered database.

Issue

After moving a database either way between an Amazon RDS and a non-RDS instance, you must re-register the database with SolarWinds DPA. It is not possible to edit the existing connection details to keep a seamless transition between the old and new instance.

Resolution

This method retains the old historical DPA data of the moved database:

  1. Shut down and unlicense the old registered database monitor.
  2. Register and license the moved database as a new instance.

If you do not need to keep the historical data:

  1. Unregister the old database instance.
  2. Register and license the moved database as a new instance.
