WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

No metric data for MySQL

Overview

If DPA does not show metric data for a MySQL database instance, we recommend enabling the following settings to optimize SolarWinds DPA’s reporting capabilities.

Environment

  • DPA, all supported versions
  • MySQL 5.6 and later

Cause

  • For MySQL 5.6, the MySQL Performance Schema must be enabled
  • For MySQL 5.7.6 and later, Compatibility Mode must be enabled

Resolution

For MySQL 5.6, enable the MySQL Performance Schema

If the monitored database instance is version 5.6, we recommend enabling the MySQL Performance Schema. If the Performance Schema is not enabled, SolarWinds DPA can provide very limited data.

The Performance Schema must be enabled at server startup. In MySQL versions 5.6.6 and later, the Performance Schema is enabled by default. For information about verifying availability and enabling the Performance Schema, see the MySQL documentation.

For MySQL 5.7.6 and later, enable Compatibility Mode

If the monitored database instance is version 5.7.6 or higher, we recommend turning on the show_compatibilty_56 system variable to enable 5.6 compatibility mode.

If:

DPA can collect:

Compatibility mode is enabled

most  possible metrics

Compatibility mode is not enabled;
Performance Schema is enabled

All metrics except the following:

  • Selects
  • Inserts
  • Updates
  • Deletes

Compatibility mode is not enabled;
Performance Schema is not enabled

No metrics

To see what the current mode is and to change the mode, execute the following statements against the MySQL instance:

       select @@show_compatibility_56;
       set GLOBAL show_compatibility_56=1;  -- turns 5.6 compatibility on
