Enable JMX connections for DPA

Table of contents

Updated February 14, 2017

Overview

DPA 11.0 and later does not allow local or remote Java Management Extensions (JMX) connections by default.

You may be asked by SolarWinds support to enable JMX connections to troubleshoot an issue. Or, you may want to monitor the health of the DPA process with JMX.

Environment

  • DPA 11.0 and later

Steps

Enable JMX by taking the following steps:

  1. Open the following file in a text editor:

    <DPA_installation_directory>/iwc/tomcat/ignite_config/idc/system.properties

  2. Locate the spring.profiles.active entry.
  3. Make sure it is not commented out, and its list of values contains jmx. For example:

    spring.profiles.active=jmx

  4. Save the file, and restart DPA.
  5. Connect with JMX using the following URL:

    service:jmx:rmi://<host-or-ip>:11099/jndi/rmi://<host-or-ip>:11099/idc
