Annotations are useful to document important events inside your dynamic database environment. SolarWinds®  Database Performance Analyzer (DPA for short) has an easy-to-use annotation feature that can be used to mark when changes to a database were made, such as tuning queries or adding indexes.

These annotations will show on charts, and can be helpful in tracking their effects on a database system.
To annotate an event, all you have to do is click the Annotate button on the right side of the DPA interface.

This opens a dialog box. You can name the Annotation, its occurrence, date and time, details, and who created the annotation. Click save.
DPA will display the event on any trend or timeslice view as a flag. You can hover over the flag to see the basics for the annotation, or click on it to see more details or edit the annotation.
From the details screen, you can also delete an annotation.
Now you have a way to share information about events in your environment. After all, if performance profiles change, the first thing everyone will ask is, “Well, what changed?”
