Display user-friendly server names in DPA

Table of contents

Overview

This article describes how to change the names displayed on the DPA home page. By default, DPA displays the name used to register the database instance which leads to lengthy names.

Environment

All DPA versions

Steps

DPA earlier than v10.0

  1. Update the COND table in the repository with a command similar to the following using a query tool:
    UPDATE COND
    SET name='ABC'
    WHERE name LIKE '%servername';
    Or update the COND table by using the database ID. You can find the database ID by looking in the COND table:
    SELECT id, name
    FROM COND
    ORDER BY name;
  2. Find the ID for the server you want to update and then use that as follows:
    UPDATE COND
    SET name = 'ABC'
    WHERE id = the_id_you_found;
  3. If you have alerts running against the instances you rename, you click Options > Refresh Ignite Alert Cache. The screen will refresh within 10-20 seconds and display the new name.

DPA 10.0 and later

  1. On the DPA Web GUI, go to Options > Monitor set up tab.
  2. Click Update connection info and select the instance you want to change the name for.
  3. Edit the Display Name.
