Overview

This article describes how to determine the SQL Server job name in DPA. When DPA shows a database job executing, it collects the program_name column data from dm_exec_requests and displays it in the Program tab but does not display the job name.

Environment

All DPA versions

Steps

  1. Copy the program_name value shown in the program tab. For example:
    SQLAgent - TSQL JobStep (Job 0x133C6F2E2C29DB4B8221533B3D6B728B : Step 1)
  2. Run the following query:
    select * from msdb..sysjobs where job_id = 0x133C6F2E2C29DB4B8221533B3D6B728B
Note: There are no quotes around that job_id value. The 0x in front of the job_id tells SQL Server to convert it to a hex value which then matches with the sysjobs table.
