New features and improvements in DPAIM 11.0

Integration with SRM

DPAIM 11.0 supports mapping database instances to the LUNs on your arrays with Storage Resource Monitor (SRM). You can use the resources on the new DB Storage Summary view to gain visibility into into database performance problems caused by storage.

Improved status calculation of database instances

In DPAIM 11.0, database instance status reflects the unique wait time statistical analysis from DPA.

Expanded database support

See Azure SQL and Amazon RDS for Aurora databases linked to your applications and infrastructure in the Orion Platform.

New features and improvements in DPAIM 11.0.1

Expanded integration with SRM

In DPAIM 11.0.1, the following additional resources are available on the DB Storage Summary page and on the Database Instance detail page in the DB Storage view:

  • IOPS Performance Per LUN
  • Latency Performance Per LUN

Expanded support for Azure SQL databases

In DPAIM 11.0.1, the following additional resources are available on the Database Instance detail page:

  • Azure SQL DB Performance Statistics from Database Performance Analyzer
  • Storage Statistics from Database Performance Analyzer

New customer installation

For information about installing DPA Integration Module, see the DPAIM 11.0 Administrator Guide.

Before you upgrade

If you are upgrading from a previous version, you should know:

  • When upgrading to DPAIM 11.0, if you added a site binding to a host name before you upgrade, you must bind the Orion Web Console to a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). See this article.
  • When upgrading to DPAIM 11.0 with custom menus, you can not see the Performance Dashboard link in the menu. For details, see this article.
  • After integrated DPAIM 11.0, future releases will no longer support Windows OS 2008 and 2008 R2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for Orion Platform installations. Integrated Patch Manager 2.1.4 currently supports these versions. SolarWinds recommends that you upgrade to Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, or 2016 at your earliest convenience. For more information, see End of support notices.
  • Always upgrade NPM first if you have it installed. NPM includes platform features to support all Orion products.
  • If you have SAM without NPMupgrade SAM first. SAM includes platform features to support all Orion products.
  • Always use the Product Upgrade Advisor to build your upgrade path.

How to upgrade

Use the following resources for planning and upgrading:

  • Use the Product Upgrade Advisor to build your upgrade path. The path provides the exact products and versions to upgrade in a sequence to the latest versions.
  • If you are upgrading DPA in Orion and other modules (NPM, SAM, NCM, NTA, etc.), use the multiple products upgrade guideEach guide includes checklists and instructions to help you plan and execute your upgrade.
  • When you are ready, download the upgrade package from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

Fixed issues

DPA Integration Module 11.0 fixes the following issues:

Case number Description

1100639
1102609

1070394 Fixed an issue where integration failed when Oracle database instances were registered using the Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) Name or TNS Connect Descriptor.

Known issues

Uninstall DPAIM without .NET 3.5

Issue: You cannot uninstall or upgrade from DPAIM 10.0.1 on a computer that does not have .NET 3.5 installed.

Work-around: Install .NET 3.5 before uninstalling or upgrading from DPA in Orion 10.0.1. See this KB article for more information.

Date range is one day behind on Wait Time resources

Issue: The date on Wait Time Trends resources is one day behind for environments where the DPA and Orion servers are in different time zones. The affected resources are:

  • All Instances with the Highest Wait Times
  • Instances with the Highest Wait Times
  • Greatest Downward Wait Time Trends
  • Greatest Upward Wait Time Trends

Work-around: Set the DPA and Orion servers to the same time zone.

Network Atlas cannot start

Issue: Network Atlas cannot start when integration with the DPA server is not working.

Work-around: Remove or fix the integration. See this KB article for more information.

Objects not loaded when DPA server is down

Issue: You cannot create a new group with database instances when any of the DPA servers are down.

Work-around: Change the Group By option to No Grouping.

DPAIM stops working after failover

Issue: If you have High Availability configured, the DPA Integration Module stops working when a failover occurs after you re-integrate with a previously integrated DPA server.

Work-around: Re-integrate the DPA server.
