Unable to re-add a host machine to the Remote Hosts list

Updated May 22, 2017

Overview

This article addresses the issue where a host machine cannot be re-added to the remote host list after it has been removed.

Environment

DameWare Remote Support (DRS) 12 and later

Cause

This behavior is designed to prevent connections to deleted computers.

Resolution

  1. Clean up the database from previously deleted machines. This operation starts automatically on a regular schedule when the Service starts. The default is every 30 days.
  2. Go to the DameWare server installation directory.
  3. Open the DameWare.Server.Service.exe.config file.
  4. Locate DeleteRemoteHostsPermanentlyAfterDays and take note of its value.
  5. Change the value to 1 (for example).
  6. Change the computer date to a date in the future.
  7. Restart the DameWare Server service.
  8. Wait for a few minutes and stop the DameWare Server service.
  9. Change back to your system date.
  10. Change the DeleteRemoteHostsPermanentlyAfterDays parameter in the DameWare.Server.Service.exe.config file back to the original value.
  11. Start the DameWare Server service.
  12. Install the MRC agent on the remote computer that you want to add back.
  13. Open the DameWare Server Administrator Console and check if this computer exists in the Remote Hosts list.
