Overview

This article provides information and steps in collecting diagnostics

Environment

  • All DameWare Remote Support versions
  • All DameWare Mini Remote Control versions

​Steps

Diagnostics Tool for DameWare Server is called Central Server Diagnostics It can be found in the Windows menu.

1. Click Start > All Programs \Solarwinds\DameWare Central Server\Help\Support Tools > Central Server Diagnostics.

2. After executing it, just click Start and it will collect all logs and pack them into .zip file.

Diagnostics tool for DRS/MRC consoles is called Remote Support Diagnostic. It can be found in the Windows menu.

1. Click Start > All Programs \Solarwinds\DameWare Remote Support\Help\Support Tools > Remote Support Diagnostics.

2. After executing it, just click Start and it will collect all logs and pack them into .zip file.

 

Note:
If you have DameWare Server and DRS/MRC consoles installed on same workstation you need to run both of these tools to collect all logs.

 

Adjusting the Logging Level

To adjust the logging level of DameWare Central Server (Main Service, Administration Console),Licensing (Licensing, Licensor), Setup and diagnostic (Configuration Wizard, Install Helper, and Diagnostics Tool), run DameWare Central Server Log Adjuster. It can be found in the Windows menu.

 

  1. Click Start > All Programs \SolarWinds\DameWare Central Server\Help\Support Tools > Central Server Log Adjuster
  2. Select logging level to DEBUG for appropriate component.
  3. Click Apply.

 

To adjust the logging level for MRC console, DRS console, MRC agent, and MRC Service Tray, run SolarWinds Log Adjuster. It can be found in the Windows menu.

  1. Click Start > All Programs \SolarWinds\DameWare Remote Support\Help\Support Tools > Remote Support Log Adjuster
  2. Select logging level to DEBUG for appropriate component.
  3. Click Apply.

 

Installer + CW Log Files Location

For Vista/7/8/Server 2008/Server 2012

  • Logs for Configuration Wizard are found here - %PROGRAMDATA%\DameWare\Server\ConfigurationWizard.log
  • Logs to Install Helper are found here - %PROGRAMDATA%\DameWare\Server\InstallHelper.log

 

To get Installer Logs, perform the steps below:

  1. Click Start > Run menu.
  2. Type CMD and click Enter.
  3. In CMD window, navigate to folder with server installation file. For example, cd C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads.
  4. Type DameWareServer-v11.1.exe /args "/L*V C:\server.log" as the next command in CMD.
    Installation will start.
  5. Continue with the installation.
  6. When the installation is finished, the server.log file is found in C:\.

 

DRS/MRC Log File Location

  • Logs for DRS are found here - %APPDATA%\DameWare Development\Logs\DNTU.log
  • Logs for MRC are found here - %APPDATA%\DameWare Development\Logs\DWRCC.log

 

Central Server Log File Location

For Vista/7/8/Server 2008/Server 2012

Note:

Files are named Service.[XXXX].log

  • Starting from Windows Vista Central Server logs are found here - %PROGRAMDATA%\DameWare\Server\Service
  • Logs for Admin Console are found here - %PROGRAMDATA%\DameWare\Server\AdminConsole.log
  • Logs for DameWare Licensor are found here - %PROGRAMDATA%\DameWare\SolarWinds.DameWare.Licensor.log

 

Note:

If Central Server, Internet Proxy, and Mobile Gateway are installed separately, use the same files for logging as Central Server installed in All-In-One scenario.

 

DameWare Agent Log File Location

  • Logs for Agents are found here - %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\DameWare Development\Logs\DWRCS.log
  • Logs for Agent system trays are found here - %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\DameWare Development\Logs\DWRCST.log

 

Note:

Logs related to mirror drivers are found under keyword MirrorDriverGetUseMirrorDriver on agent side or server side for OTI.

 

DameWare - Web Help Desk Integration Log File Location

Log for MRC console and integration methods are found here - %AppData%\Roaming\DameWare Development\Logs\DWRCWHD.log

 

SolarWinds uses log4net to produces log files.

 

The following parameters are available to modify the rolling file appender:

To increase the log file size:

  1. Navigate to your install folder. By default it is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Product Name\.
  2. Backup SolarwindsDiagnostics.exe.config.
  3. Open SolarwindsDiagnostics.exe.config in a text editor.
  4. Search for the following:
    appender name="RollingLogFileAppender"
  5. Enter your desired maximum log file size in maximumFileSize value="20MB".
  6. Save the file.
  7. Restart the service.
