Using the local loopback port in the DameWare Mini Remote Control software

Table of contents

Updated July 18, 2017.

Beginning in version 6.x of the DameWare Mini Remote Control (DMRC) software, DameWare Development disabled support for local loopback connections.  Connecting via the local loopback port can produce confusing and sometimes undesirable results in various multi-monitor/full-screen/mouse/keyboard scenarios.

Versions prior to

By default this functionality will be disabled.  However, for advanced users running the software in a special environment that requires this capability (i.e. SSL, Level Platforms, etc.), a work-around has been provided in the steps below.

Versions and above

Beginning in version of the DMRC software, instead of automatically disabling the local loopback functionality, an information message will be displayed stating that local loopback is not recommended.  Simply select Yes to continue.

To prevent this information message from being displayed, see the steps and Registry keys listed below.

  • DameWare Mini Remote Control - Version(s) 6.0 and above

If running version or higher of the DMRC software:

  1. Create the following Registry key on the local machine with the appropriate value, depending on your version of DMRC.

    For versions prior to

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DameWare Development\NT Utilities\DNTU\DWRCC Settings]
    "Local Loopback"=dword:00000000

    For versions and above:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control\Settings]
    "Local Loopback"=dword:00000000

  1. Use one of the following values for either Registry key:

    00000000=Local Loopback not allowed (default)

00000001=Local Loopback allowed but mirror driver automatically disabled

00000002=Local Loopback allowed with no restrictions (DMRC v5 behavior)

If this value is set to dword:00000000 or if this Registry key does not exist, local loopback will be disabled. Setting this value to dword:00000001 will enable local loopback while disabling the mirror driver. Setting this value to dword:00000002 will enable local loopback with no restrictions and disable the information message shown above.

  1. Restart the software.
