Waiting for Initial Screen indefinitely and does not show the remote screen

Overview  

Unable to connect to the remote systems with MRC, if the remote system is running Sophos Anti-Virus 10.0. When the connection is initialized, MRC displays the message:

Waiting for Initial Screen indefinitely and does not show the remote screen.

Environment 

All DameWare Mini Remote Control versions

Resolution

Upgrade the client to the latest agent version to resolve this issue. This issue has been resolved in version 9.0 of the client agent. If you prefer not to upgrade the client, try the workaround in DameWare MRC displays "Waiting for Initial Screen" when trying to connect to XP/2003 clients.

Note: If you are experiencing this issue, uninstall the existing MRC client agent prior to installing the new one. The following procedure describes the best method for doing this.

To replace the MRC client agent on systems affected by the Sophos issue:

  1. Remove the DameWare Mini Remote Control service from the remote system.
  2. Delete the folder C:\Windows\dwrcs on the remote system.
  3. Install version 9.0 of the MRC client agent.
  4. Connect to the remote system using MRC 9.0.
