Smart Card Authentication failed in Dameware Mini Remote Control (DMRC) with Windows 10

Overview

When you access a Windows 10 device or when Credential Guard is enabled, the following error message is displayed in the DameWare Remote Control console:

Smart Card Authentication failed:
Remote Message: Failed to retrieve required card information for Smart 
Card Logon support.
If the 'Remote Message' above doesn't indicate the failure, please check 
the Application event log on the remote machine for a possible cause.

Environment

  • DameWare Mini Remote Control 12.0.3 to 12.0.4
  • Windows 10

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Customer Portal.
  2. Click Downloads > Download Product.
  3. Click the Products drop-down menu and select Dameware.
  4. Click Archived Hot Fixes.
  5. Download DameWare v12.0.4 - Hot Fix 1. 
  6. Install the hot fix on the remote machine.
