Change the DameWare Central Server or DameWare Internet Proxy hostname

Table of contents

Overview

This article provides steps on how to change the Dameware Central Server or the Dameware Internet Proxy hostname.

Environment

  • DameWare Remote Support version 11.0 and later
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control version 11.0 and later

Steps

When the DameWare Internet Proxy or Central Server is installed, a self-signed certificate is also installed and bound to a port. If you want to change the hostname after the DameWare Internet Proxy or Central Server has been installed, you must create and bind a new self-signed certificate.

If you use a certificate from a certificate authority, the certificate authority must reissue the certificate with the new hostname.

To create and bind a new, self-signed certificate:

  1. Log on to the computer with administrative privileges.
  2. Run services.msc.
  3. Stop the DameWare Server service.
  4. Open a command prompt.
  5. Navigate to your DameWare installation folder in the prompt. By default it is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\DameWare Server.
  6. Run the following commands to delete the certificate where port_number is the original, bound port:

DameWare.Server.InstallHelper.exe DeleteWcfCert port port_number
   7. Run the following command to create the self-signed certificate where hostname is the new hostname and port_number is the DameWare service port (the default service port number is 6133(:
DameWare.Server.InstallHelper.exe CreateWcfCert hostname port_number
   8. In the Manage Services window, start the DameWare Server service.
