These release notes provide additional guidance for DameWare Remote Support (DW DRS) version 12.0.3

New Features and Improvements in DW DRS 12.0.3

  • DW DRS 12.0.3 is a service release and includes no new features.

  • DW DRS 12.0.2 is a service release and includes no new features.  See the list of fixed issues.

New Features and Improvements in DW DRS 12.0

  • DameWare Mini Remote Control can manage and control machines inside and outside the corporate network where no user is available at the machine (unattended).
  • Using the Change Running Mode utility, DameWare Mini Remote Control can switch between console only (stand-alone) and centralized modes without DameWare re-installation. The utility changes the running mode for all consoles (DameWare Mini Remote Control, DameWare Remote Support, and DameWare Exporter).
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control has combined the buttons for connecting to a remote host and inviting users to an internet session into one group under Connect.
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control can search for IP addresses and hostname in host lists.
  • DameWare supports Windows 10 operating system.

Fixed Issues in DW DRS 12.0.3

  • DW DRS 12.0.3 has no fixed issues. 

Fixed Issues in DW DRS 12.0.2

  • Fixed the issue regarding the POODLE SSLv3 vulnerability.
  • Fixed the issue where the DRS Service installation fails.
  • Fixed the issue where the Event log does not show content.
  • Fixed the issue where you are unable to add a Domain Firewall Policy.

Fixed Issues in DW DRS 12.0

  • You can now connect to DameWare Central Server after server reboot.
  • Reading Symantec event logs through the DameWare interface no longer crashes.
  • Storing and opening values into 64bit registry on DameWare Remote Support is now enabled.
  • You can now execute remote commands in Remote CMD when User Account Control is enabled on the target device.
  • Installing client service on x64 bit devices now works correctly.
  • You can now upgrade the DameWare Remote Support service by removing and re-pushing service from the remote machine.
  • When deploying the DameWare Remote Support service, inbound rules are now created in Windows firewall.
  • No delays when switching between monitors starting this release.
  • You can now connect to the DameWare Mobile Gateway using Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4 without error.

End of Life Policy

In order to drive innovation and new functionality into our products, SolarWinds must transition customers from legacy versions of software to current versions. Please review the following support schedule:

  • 4/28/2015: End-of-Life announcement (EoL) – Customers on DameWare v8.0.1 or earlier should begin transitioning to DameWare 11.2 or DameWare 12.0.
  • 5/06/2014: End-of-Life announcement (EoL) – Customers on DameWare v7.4 or earlier should begin transitioning to DameWare 11.1 or DameWare 12.0.
  • 12/12/2012: End-of-Life (EoL) – SolarWinds will no longer provide technical support for SolarWinds DameWare v6.9 or earlier

Installer List

Stand-alone install

The stand-alone install requires each product to be individually activated on each computer. It is most useful for organizations with a small user base or with small or decentralized IT departments. These installers are available through your customer portal.

Centralized install

The centralized install requires you to install and deploy at least the DameWare Central Server. License activation occurs on the server level and users authenticate to the Central Server from any centralized Remote Support or Mini Remote Control installation. Centralized mode is useful for organizations with a large user base, with large or centralized IT departments, or with multiple DameWare product licenses managed. You must request these installers from your SolarWinds sales representative.

DameWareServer.exe

DameWare Server v12.0 Installer, used to deploy all server roles, the Administration Console, and DameWare Remote Support v12.0 in Centralized mode.

 

Standalone Licensing (DRS or MRC licenses)

After installing the standard version of Remote Support (DameWareRS-St.exe), you are prompted to enter the licensing information for your product.

 

To evaluate the software, click Continue Evaluation.

Note: If you want to upgrade your version 10 applications to version 12.0, you do not need to upgrade your license.

 

To license the software on a computer with Internet access:

  1. On the computer you want to license, click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Remote Support 11.2 > Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select I have internet access and an activation key.
  3. Access the customer portal on the SolarWinds website at http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal.
  4. Log in using your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
  5. Click License Management.
  6. Navigate to your product, choose an activation key from the Unregistered Licenses section, and then copy the activation key.
  7. If you cannot find an activation key in the Unregistered Licenses section, contact SolarWinds customer support.
  8. Return to the Activate DRS window, and then enter the activation key in the Activation Key field.
  9. If you access Internet web sites through a proxy server, click I access the internet through a proxy server, and enter its proxy address and port.
     Note: If your computer accesses the Internet through an authenticated proxy server, complete the procedure for activating without Internet access.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter your email address and other registration information, and then click Next.

 

To license the software on a computer without Internet access:

  1. On the computer you want to license, click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Remote Support 11.2 > Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select This server does not have internet access, and then click Next.
  3. Click Copy Unique Machine ID.
  4. Paste the copied data into a text editor document.
  5. Transfer the document to a computer with Internet access.
  6. On the computer with Internet access, complete the following steps:
    1. Browse to http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal, and then log in to the portal with your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
    2. Locate your product, and then click Manually Register License.
    3. If the Manually Register License option is not available for your product, contact SolarWinds customer support.
    4. Provide the Machine ID, and then download your license key file.
  7. Transfer the license key file to the computer you want to license.
  8. Return to the Activate DRS window, browse to the license key file, and then click Next.

Centralized Licensing (DRSC or MRCC licenses)

After installing the Central Server (DameWareServer.exe), activate your license on the DameWare Central Server using the Centralized licensing. After the license is activated on the Central Server, you can assign licenses to users using the Administration Console.

 

After the Central Server is running, install or upgrade the DameWare Remote Support and Mini Remote Control applications, and choose Centralized Install in the installers. Deactivate any pre-existing licenses on the computers you upgrade.

 

Note: You must request the Centralized version of DameWare Remote Support from your SolarWinds sales representative.

 

To license the software on a computer with Internet access:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Server > Activate DameWare Licenses > Licensing.
  2. Click Enter Licensing Information.
  3. Select I have internet access and an activation key.
  4. Access the customer portal on the SolarWinds website at http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal.
  5. Log in using your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
  6. Click License Management.
