DameWare Mini Remote Control Version 12.0 Release Notes

These release notes provide additional guidance for DameWare Mini Remote Control version 12.0.

New Features and Improvements

  • DameWare Mini Remote Control can manage and control machines inside and outside the corporate network where no user is available at the machine (unattended).
  • Using the Change Running Mode utility, DameWare Mini Remote Control can switch between console only (stand-alone) and centralized modes without DameWare re-installation. The utility changes the running mode for all consoles (DameWare Mini Remote Control, DameWare Remote Support, and DameWare Exporter).
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control has combined the buttons for connecting to a remote host and inviting users to an internet session into one group under Connect.
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control can search for IP addresses and hostname in host lists.
  • DameWare supports Windows 10 operating system.

Fixed Issues

  • Agent settings may now be applied in non-administrator mode.
  • Mirror driver is now disabled after disconnecting to DameWare Mini Remote Control keeping the AERO interface enabled in Windows.
  • Mirror driver option that causes Windows to reboot is now fixed.
  • Connecting using Permission Required functionality is now possible for Windows 2012 R2.
  • Error "200 - SessionID: 1 (wts 64 bit)" in Event Viewer is fixed.
  • You can now use Connect to Client functionality from Agent to DameWare Mini Remote Control.
  • No delays when switching between monitors starting this release.
  • MSI builder settings are now retained after agent installation.
  • You can now connect to the DameWare Mobile Gateway using Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4 without error.

End of Life Policy

In order to drive innovation and new functionality into our products, SolarWinds must transition customers from legacy versions of software to current versions. Please review the following support schedule:

  • 4/28/2015: End-of-Life announcement (EoL) – Customers on DameWare v8.0.1 or earlier should begin transitioning to DameWare 11.2 or DameWare 12.0.
  • 5/06/2014: End-of-Life announcement (EoL) – Customers on DameWare v7.4 or earlier should begin transitioning to DameWare 11.1 or DameWare 12.0.
  • 12/12/2012: End-of-Life (EoL) – SolarWinds will no longer provide technical support for SolarWinds DameWare v6.9 or earlier.

Installer List

Stand-alone install

The stand-alone install requires each product to be individually activated on each computer. It is most useful for organizations with a small user base or with small or decentralized IT departments. These installers are available through your customer portal.

Centralized install

The centralized install requires you to install and deploy at least the DameWare Central Server. License activation occurs on the server level and users authenticate to the Central Server from any centralized MRC installation. Centralized mode is useful for organizations with a large user base, with large or centralized IT departments, or with multiple DameWare product licenses managed from a single point. You must request these installers from your SolarWinds sales representative.

Standalone Licensing (MRC licenses)

After installing the standard version of Mini Remote Control (DameWareMRC32-St.exe or DameWareMRC64-St.exe), you are prompted to enter the licensing information for your product.
 

To evaluate the software, click Continue Evaluation.

 Note: If you want to upgrade your version 10 applications to version 12.0, you do not need to upgrade your license.
 

To license the software on a computer with Internet access:

  1. On the computer you want to license, click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Mini Remote Control 12.0 > Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select I have internet access and an activation key.
  3. Access the customer portal on the SolarWinds website at http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal.
  4. Log in using your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
  5. Click License Management.
  6. Navigate to your product, choose an activation key from the Unregistered Licenses section, and then copy the activation key.
  7. If you cannot find an activation key in the Unregistered Licenses section, contact SolarWinds customer support.
  8. Return to the Activate Mini Remote Control window, and then enter the activation key in the Activation Key field.
  9. If you access Internet web sites through a proxy server, click I access the internet through a proxy server, and enter its proxy address and port.
     Note: If your computer accesses the Internet through an authenticated proxy server, complete the procedure for activating without Internet access.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter your email address and other registration information, and then click Next.


To license the software on a computer without Internet access:

  1. On the computer you want to license, click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Mini Remote Control 12.0 > Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select This server does not have internet access, and then click Next.
  3. Click Copy Unique Machine ID.
  4. Paste the copied data into a text editor document.
  5. Transfer the document to a computer with Internet access.
  6. On the computer with Internet access, complete the following steps:
    1. Browse to http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal, and then log in to the portal with your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
    2. Locate your product, and then click Manually Register License.
    3. If the Manually Register License option is not available for your product, contact SolarWinds customer support.
    4. Provide the Machine ID, and then download your license key file.
  7. Transfer the license key file to the computer you want to license.
  8. Return to the Activate MRC window, browse to the license key file, and then click Next.

Centralized Licensing (MRCC licenses)

After installing the Central Server (DameWareServer.exe), activate your license on the DameWare Central Server using the Centralized licensing. After the license is activated on the Central Server, you can assign licenses to users using the Administration Console.

After the Central Server is running, install or upgrade the Mini Remote Control applications and choose Centralized Install in the installers. Deactivate any pre-existing DameWare Remote Support or Mini Remote Control licenses on the computers you upgrade.

 Note: You must request the Centralized version of DameWare Remote Support from your SolarWinds sales representative.


To license the software on a computer with Internet access:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > DameWare Server > Activate DameWare Licenses > Licensing.
  2. Click Enter Licensing Information.
  3. Select I have internet access and an activation key.
