Overview

You can use a Non-Polling IP address to send Syslog or Trap Messages to NCM for Real Time Change notification. The requirement is that the IP address that the Syslog or Trap is coming from has to be in the database table NCM_IPaddresses and associated with that node. That table is populated by NCM running an inventory against those nodes and gathering the IP address information for the interfaces.

Environment

NCM 7.4

Steps

  1. Test the SNMP on the device in Orion to verify that the SNMP credentials and it responds.
  2. Go to Settings > NCM settings > Node Inventory,
  3. Select all the options except the Route Tables and the options at the bottom for Extend VLANs Inventory and Disable inventory lookup.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Go to Reports under the Configs tab and select the IP Addresses on each interface report
  6. Click Update Inventory and select the nodes. The update should take 5-10 minutes.
  7. Test to see if the nodes that were not previously working with the non polling IP are now working with the RTN.
