Overview

Configuration Wizard ends with the following error:

Could not Alter DataType of TransferQueue.Log

Errors on the Configuration wizard log:
ERROR DBStructureProcessor - Could not Alter DataType of TransferQueue.Log to text(0)Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.FailedOperationException: Alter failed for Column 'Log'. ---> Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot create a row of size 8066 which is greater than the allowable maximum row size of 8060.
The statement has been terminated.
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ConnectionManager.ExecuteTSql(ExecuteTSqlAction action, Object execObject, DataSet fillDataSet, Boolean catchException)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ServerConnection.ExecuteNonQuery(String sqlCommand, ExecutionTypes executionType)

Environment

NCM 7.2.x

Cause

It is normally caused by lack of SQL privileges on the Orion SQL account.

Resolution

  1. Try to rerun Configuration Wizard using an SA SQL account. If not logged into the SQL server, give the SQL account the proper user rights.
  2. If the above does not help, run the SQL query below against the Orion database:
    Truncate table TransferQueue
  3. Rerun the Configuration Wizard.
