Updated: 3-9-2017

The Desktop Notification Tool is an application you can install on an administrator's desktop to provide and manage alert notifications without accessing the Orion web console. This tool is available for download through the web-based alert manager.

Download and install the tool

When creating an alert, you have an action option to play a sound. A link is provided for downloading the desktop notification client. Download and install the client to your desktop.

You must be an Orion administrator to use the client.

After installing, you can configure an alert action to play a sound. The sound plays through the desktop to get your attention when the alert triggers.

Use the Desktop Notification tool

  1. Click Start > SolarWinds Orion > Desktop Notification Tool > Desktop Notification Tool.
  2. Enter the correct Orion server and credentials. When done, click Connect.
  3. From the Preferences screen, select the options you want, and then click Save.
