NTA Module frequently loses or re-establishes connection to the Net Flow storage database

Updated September 13, 2016

NTA Module frequently loses and re-establishes connection to the Net Flow storage database.

The NTA Business Layer log in volume:\programdata\solarwinds\logs\NTA\ shows the following error:

ERROR:< SolarWinds.Netflow.Processing.ScheduledTask - CheckFastbitInitialization threw an exception.
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: No DNS entries exist for host Nttflowstaorageservername. ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known>

All NTA versions

There is a DNS error resolving the NTA database server host name.

Either of the following methods will resolve the issue:

On the NTA application server, run the Configuration Wizard and use the IP address instead of the host name for the NTA database server.

Create a host file on the server and add an entry for the Netflow database server.

How to modify local Host file:

1. Path to  Hosts file:  "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"

2. Open "hosts" file with Notepad

3. Add the IP Address and Server name of the Netflow database server at the bottom without the # in front.

    Example:        (NTA Databasse server name)

4. Save the hosts file
