Adjust the Trap Viewer time out value

Overview

This article discusses how to addresses the issue where the NPM Trap Viewer times out even when the Trap messages can be viewed and you are able to use SQL search queries in the database manager.

Environment

NPM 11.5.2

Resolution

Perform any of the following:

Edit the SWNetperfMon.db file

Warning: 

  • Save a copy of the original SWNetperfMon.db file to your local drive as a backup, in case you need to roll back later.
  • SolarWinds strongly recommends that you only edit the SWNetperfMon.db file as instructed. Any additional modifications may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.
  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\
  2. Open SWNetperfMon.db in a text editor.
  3. Change the connection and command time out to 360:

    !
    !    SqlCommand.CommandTimeout in seconds
    SqlCommandTimeout=360

Adjust the syslog page view time out 

  1. Open the database manager on you Orion NPM server.
  2. Expand your NPM database.
  3. Locate and right-click the WebUserSettings table.
  4. Click Execute Query. 
  5. Locate the account name/ID of the user that is experiencing the issue. Scroll down to the row that applies to the user and that contains the name Web-TrapMaxMsgPerPage.
  6. Select Enable Table Editing.
  7. Change the SettingValue in this row to a larger or smaller number.
  8. Press Enter.

 

 

You should now be able to load the Trap viewer page fo the specified account in the web console.
