Website is not working after reboot and SQL Express is hosted on the same machine as Orion

Overview

Website does not come up after a reboot of the Orion server. This can be due to:

  1. SQL service not coming up before Orion services.
  2. Either SQL Express or a full version is installed on the same machine as Orion, and they are using that instance for Orion.
  3. Orion services fail to start, or fail to connect to SQL / SQL Express.

Environment

Applies to Orion Core and all NPM versions

Cause 

Orion services depend on (have dependencies for) SQL server when it is installed on the same machine as Orion.

Resolution

 

1. Go into services.msc and find all the Orion services. Set them to Automatic (Delayed Start).

2. Reboot services.

After you reboot, the NPM services will wait for the SQL services to come up before starting. Just make sure to do this on ALL of the SolarWinds services. You will have approximately this many (depending on licenses):

Note: This means that it will take a few minutes for your website to start working after a reboot, but it will start working. 

3. You should leave SQL as-is, on Automatic start:
