Overview

By default, the Syslog Viewer will only show the HostName instead of the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Some may need the full Name instead of just shortened Host Name.

Environment

NPM 11 and later

Steps

To show the FQDN proceed as follow:

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Syslog and Traps > Syslog Viewer
  2. Go to > Settings
  3. Click the Message Parsing tab.
  4. Unselect the "Remove Domain Name from DNS Lookups" option.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. Restart the SolarWinds Syslog Service.
  7. Go to Start > Run > cmd + ok.
    • net stop SolarwindsSyslogService
    • net start SolarwindsSyslogService

The hostname field should now show the FQDN.
