Alert on extended Volume information

Overview

This article provides steps on how to alert on the following values when monitoring nodes using a polling method of VMI: 

  • Total Disk IOPS
  • Avg. Disk sec/Transfer
  • Disk Queue Length

Environment

  • All versions of SAM
  • Nodes using polling method of WMI

Steps

1. Go to Settings > Manage Alerts > click Add New Alert.

3. Set name to Alert for Volume performance and click Next.

4. Set the I want to alert on to Volume.

5. Set the Trigger alert when to At least one child condition must be satisfied.

6. Add the following Single Value conditions:

  • Volume Total Disk IOPs is more than: X
  • Volume Disk Seconds Per Transfer is more than: X
  • Volume Disk Queue Length is more than: X

Note: Replace X with the desired threshold value.

7. Click Next until you get to the Trigger Actions tab.

8. Click Add Action and add an Email action to send you an email.

9. Click Next until you get to the Summary tab.

10. Click Submit.

 

You should now have a basic Alert that will send you an email when the extended volume values exceed the thresholds you specified.
