Overview

Polling Hardware Health or Asset Inventory for a Dell Blade server incorrectly pulls the service tag for the blade chassis and not the blade.

Cause

When polling Hardware Health and Asset Inventory for a Dell Blade server, the VMware API returns two service tags when polling – one for the chassis and one for the blade, the order of which varies and is undeterminable.

Resolution

As a workaround, in VMAN and SAM 2020.2.1 or newer, add the chassis service tag to the following filters in the Centralized Settings page in the Orion Web Console:

HardwareEsxHostServiceTagFilter
AssetInventoryEsxHostServiceTagFilter

After the chassis service tag has been added to the above filters, when polling Hardware Health or Asset Inventory, the chassis service tag is ignored and the blade service tag is shown as expected.
