Question:

Why are my serial interfaces showing question marks within the System Manager when the interaces are clearly up?

Resolution:

Devices with IOS 12.2(13) report an unknown status for serial interfaces for the following reason:

Release Notes
IfOperStatus on PPP interface shows incorrect status of notPresent(6), when show interface clearly shows UP/UP.

The issue was first found in Version 12.2(13)T and 12.2(13). This issue was first resolved in Version 12.2(14.3), 12.2(14.4)T, 12.2(13a), 12.2(14.3)S, 12.2(13)T03, 12.2(14)S01, 12.2(16.1)B, 12.2(16)B, 12.2(14)SX, and 12.2(15)ZN. This issue is resolved in Cisco IOS devices 12.2(15) and later.
